Mulas legacy continues at Schell-Vista fire department

Raymond Mulas has been chosen to succeed his father as chief of the Schell-Vista Volunteer Fire Department.

Mitch Mulas, who died March 31, was a dominant figure in Sonoma County agriculture and a fireman for more than 70 years.

His two sons now inherit that legacy. Son Michael was also promoted to assistant chief.

Adam Lobsinger, a Schell-Vista firefighter and spokesman for the department, said both men deserve their new titles.

"The fire department is fully behind them. We are hoping to carry out the work and legacy that the chief left behind," Lobsinger said.

He said firefighters are still writing out thank you cards to everyone in the community who supported the department in the wake of Mitch Mulas' death.

An overflow crowd of nearly 2,000 paid tribute to the chief on April 12 at Sonoma's St. Francis Solano Church.
