The Count returns to Buena Vista Winery
Starting today, Sonoma history actor and tour guide George Webber is taking on a new role. In “Taste with the Count,” Webber — in the guise of pioneering winemaker Count Agoston Harazsthy — will take visitors on a stroll through the gardens and property of Buena Vista Winery.
Along the way, the Count will relate stories from his extraordinary life as a viticultural pioneer. The tour ends with a tasting of Buena Vista wines; it’s offered Friday-Sunday at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. The fee ranges from $20-45.
And beginning October 1, the winery is offering something that’s fun and free. Webber and the Buena Vista Players Troupe will perform a 20-minute play, “The Count of Buena Vista,” on four consecutive Saturdays at 2 p.m. Webber, along with troupe members Butch Engle and Richard Holsworth, will portray real-life characters such as Father Jose Altimira, General Vallejo, and (of course) The Count.
Free play performances take place in front of Buena Vista’s 1857 stone winery building on October 1, 8, 15, and 22.
