Meadowcroft Wines celebrates Mardi Gras at Cornerstone

Thursday, February 7th, 2013 | Posted by

Chip and Jeanne Allen will serve as king and queen of the Mardi Gras festivities at the tasting room at Meadowcroft Wines at Cornerstone.

Grab a sequined mask, some colorful beads and an exotic boa for the third annual Mardi Gras Party at Meadowcroft Wines at Cornerstone, 23574 Arnold Drive.

Festivities get underway at 12:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 9) with the Second Line Parade featuring mini floats created by local businesses and organizations.

Sonoma residents Chip and Jeanne Allen will preside over the event as king and queen of Mardi Gras. The honorees will celebrate with party-goers from noon to 4 p.m. at the Meadowcroft tasting room.

Rhythmtown Jive, a six-piece band from Petaluma, will perform rhythm and blues, Zydeco, jump/swing and New Orleans’ musical gems.

The menu features authentic Cajun food flown direct from Louisiana. Dishes include crawfish from Baton Rouge, plus red beans and rice with smoked Cajun sausage from Eunice and king cakes from New Orleans.

“Chip and I are very excited about stepping up to royalty even if it’s just for a day,” said Jeanne Allen. “We hope many of our friends will come out and celebrate Mardi Gras with us as we assume the throne of the Krewe of Meadowcroft.”

The Allens succeed last year’s king and queen, Mike and Ronda Giangreco, who nominated the couple.

Tom Meadowcroft, the winery’s owner and winemaker, said the Allens are more than qualified to preside over the day’s festivities.

“They are both very community oriented as well as great ambassadors of the city of Sonoma,” he said.

The Allens have been Sonoma residents for more than 12 years.

Jeannie Allen retired from Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco before moving to Sonoma. She is past president of the Sonoma Valley Newcomers Club.

Chip Allen, an attorney specializing in estate and business planning, is the outgoing president of the Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Rotary Club.

For party tickets, at $60, call the Meadowcroft tasting room at 934-4090 or visit meadowcroftwines.com or localwineevents.com.

Admission includes food, wine and entertainment. Costumes are encouraged.
